On August 21st, Urban Health Plan and HPAC, in conjunction with the MBLOCK Tenants Association sponsored a Health Fair for the residents of the Manida Street Buildings.
Urban Health Plan medical assistants provided onsite health screenings and information on pre/post natal care, asthma control and HIV prevention. Project HOPE was on hand to lead the buildings’ youth in physical activities, healthy eating tips, and spread the word on the host of programs available at HOPE’s office, such as cooking and yoga classes. While parents learned about the fat content in common fast food meals, the kids enjoyed face painting and veggie snacks.
One resident commented, “I’ve lived here for 11 years and no one has done anything like this for us before.” Special thanks to Carmen Rodriguez and Alberto Rodriques, the MBLOCK Tenant Association leaders, and Urban Health Plan for making this happen!!!
