Community Advocacy

girl on pathThe Hunts Point Alliance for Children knows that parents have many questions about the educational process – and sometimes difficulty knowing where to go for answers.

HPAC works with community parents and students to find the answers to those questions – through referrals to community agencies and legal organizations, or through direct assistance.

During 2008-2009, HPAC launched an Educational Case Management Program that helps parents obtain evaluations for Early Intervention and Special Education services, work with students out of school to re-enter high school through specialized New York programs or find a GED program, and connect with quality after school services.

In January 2010, HPAC will also launch a Parent Advocacy program, that will train community parents how to help other parents advocate for education services and understand the public benefit systems.
